When the second generation FC chassis RX-7 debuted in 1986 there was a great deal of excitement in the automotive press. The RX-7 was seen as a capable contender to the Porsche throne for reasonably affordable sports cars, and continually wowed the press and public alike. Initially offered with only the 13B non-turbo engine across all trim levels in 1986, the 1987 model year RX-7 had a new trim level known as the Turbo II. The Turbo variant used a turbocharged version of the 1.3L Rotary Engine known as the 13B-T and made an impressive 180hp. In 1989 when the car saw a slight body change the engine output of both the non-turbo and turbo motors was increased. The non-turbo 13B put out around 160hp, while the awesome 13B-T was putting out an amazing 205hp thanks to slightly increased compression and increased boost.
The FC has aged well, and there are many still on the road today. They have become the affordable sports car of choice for many automotive enthusiasts recently, due to their low initial cost, and ease of being able to find one.
