For the 1993 model year Mazda introduced a totally resdesigned RX-7. The FD chassis would do away with the convertible and non-turbo options from the previous FC model, and shrank considerably in size. Equipped with a new twin-turbo 13B Rotary Engine called the 13B-REW, the RX-7 was putting down right around 250hp in stock form. North America only saw the FD until 1995 when Mazda stopped importing it, but the FD continued to be developed and sold in Japan until 2002.
The aftermarket has really embraced the FD RX-7 and it has become somewhat of a legendary car in automotive circles. Rotary fans are a die-hard group of purists and this is the ultimate sports car to many people around the world.
