The CorkSport Mazdaspeed Protege intercooler kit is a complete packagewhen used with the CorkSport Mazdaspeed Protege Cold Air Intake.
The CorkSport intercooler kit removes the small side mounted intercooler which is saddled with the radiator inside the engine bay and replaces it with a true front mounted intercooler. The intercooler kit replaces all of the factory plastic piping and low grade piping connectors with polished aluminum piping and multilayer silicone connectors. When purchased with the optional CorkSport intake you remove all of the stock plastic piping making it a complete kit, air filter to throttle body.
With the intercooler placed outside of the engine bay turbo system become more efficient resulting in more consistent power for your Mazdaspeed Protege.
The Mazdaspeed Protege FMIC kit features the following,
- Quality aluminum intercooler core, 24 in x 6 in x 3.5 in, with cast end tanks
- Polished 2.25 inch aluminum mandrel bent piping with bead rolled ends and mounting brackets
- Optional Black Powder Coated intercooler piping is available
- Black Red, Blue Silicone couplers
- Stainless Steel T-Bolt Clamps
- All necessary hardware needed for installation
- Detailed installation instructions
- Pre-purchase option for HKS or Greddy BOV flange.
-Optional Auxillary Cooling Fan
The Mazdaspeed Protege FMIC kit has undergone extensive testing in the shop and on the street You can expect the following from installing the Mazdaspeed Protege kit,
- Peak power gains of around 15-20 horsepower and 15-20 ft-lbs of torque.
- Intake boost increases 1-2 psi over the operating range of the turbocharger compared to stock.
This kit requires the removal of the auxillary-A/C fan which is located on the passenger side of the engine bay due to intercooler pipe routing. If you live in a hot climate you may want to consider adding the optional fan with the kit. The installation instructions have the how to for installation of the slim fan.
The CorkSport Mazdaspeed Protege FMIC kit does require cutting a small amount of sheet metal for installation.
